Mohammed Alkwaz was born in Iraq and came to Albuquerque in 2012 as a refugee. Since 2015 he has worked with RWP as a field research assistant and interpreter. He was awarded a master's degree in sciences from the University of Baghdad in 1995.

I know now that they’re forced to flee… they don’t just flee because they want to… after working with them, I don’t really consider them refugees because I feel like that term makes people feel sorry for them more, feel sympathetic towards them when—I mean, they’re probably some of the most hardworking people I’ve ever met.”
